NETWORK           

Project GayRussia is Russia's most active LGBT advocate group.

Our aim is to increase the visibility of the LGBT community in Russia by developping a strong base of activism.

To achieve its goals, Project GayRussia has developped strong ties with local and foreign LGBT groups. .

 

In addition, Project GayRussia has become member of several key International LGBT organizations which help us to network, exchange ideas and increase support to Russian LGBT. 

 

Finally, we work with several key LGBT medias to raise the situation of our community abroad.

 

These 3 ingredients help us to make the success of our actions.

  • 1 - A strong and efficient Network

RUSSIA : National and Regional Newtork

 

The following Russian groups are our Core partners. Many of our projects would not be possible without their help and support.

 

LGBT Rights (national), this new organization born after the first Moscow Pride, became a co-organizer of the '07 edition. Chaired by Alexey Davidov, LGBT Rights and its 30 activists have helped to make the second Moscow Pride a successfull event.

 

Gcasta (Tomsk), a small group of gay activists from Tomsk whose representative actively took part to our anti facist marche in December 2005, the Moscow Pride Festival and the July 19th action in front of the Iranian Embassy.

 

Favorit (Omsk),  the LGBT organization from Omsk supported and took part to the different events of the Moscow Pride Festival.

 

Nasiliu.Net (Moscow), a group of Russian activists against violence took part in the demonstration organized by Project GayRussia on July 19th in front of the Moscow Iranian Embassy.

Russian Radicals (national), a movement that supported the actions of Project GayRussia. Its leader, Nikolai Khramov took part to the press conferences organized by Project GayRussia in 2006 as well as the Moscow Pride Festival.

 

Ortanov Blog (Moscow), Vlad Ortanov, Moscow gay activist, is a strong supporter of the Moscow Pride and its festival as well as the other actions of Project GayRussia. He was editor of a gay magazine at the beginning of the 90's. Vlad Ortanov is a member of the Moscow Pride Committee from April 2007.

 

Youth for Democracy and Reforms (Kaliningrad), a group of human rights activists from the enclave of Kaliningrad who supported the Moscow Pride and whose representative took part to the Festival.

 

We also interact with the following groups :

 

Drugie SPB (St Petersbourg), the Saint Petersbourg LGBT project supported and took part to the different events of the Moscow Pride Festival.

 

Lesbiru.com (national), the most popular lesbian site in Russia. The forums are well visited. The site organized an post pride '06 "debriefing session" where organizers of the events answered questions asked by anyone.

 

Debryanskaya.Ru (national), the site of the Founder of the Russian Lesbian Movement. Eugenia Debrianskaya was also co-organizer of the Moscow Pride '06 during which she was arrested by the police in front of the city hall.

 

GayTimes.Ru (Ekaterinbourg), one of the first local partner of Project GayRussia. Its editors supported and took part to the Moscow Pride.

 

Komi Project (Syktivkar), the gay organization from Syktyvkar supported the Moscow Pride and announced a project to hold a gay pride in the Republic of Komi. Following this announcement, the head of the project was investigated with the crime of "distribution of pornography" through the web site of the organization. The organization has now closed its site and will re-open soon.

 

INTERNATIONAL

 

Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, Thomas Hammarberg supported the initiative of the Moscow Pride on several occasions, by public statement and during the May 17th seminar against homophobia organized in the European Parliament.

 

LGBT InterGroup of the European Parliament, Sophie In't Veld, MEP, attended both Moscow Pride Festival. The officers of the InterGroup raised the question of the attitude of the Russian authorities at the European Commission level.

 

Human Rights Watch, Scott Long, Director of the LGBT Program of HRW wrote several key letters to the Russian authorities supporting the Moscow Pride. He also personally monitored the events on the spot in 2006 and 2007.

 

IGLHRC, supported the Moscow Pride Festival by writting to the mayor of Moscow.

 

OutRage!, Peter Tatchell came to the Moscow Pride 2006 and 2007. He also joined us in Riga in 2006 for the Latvian Pride. In addition, he took part to a demonstration organized in March 2006 in front of the Russian consulate of London to protest against the decision of the Moscow Mayor to ban the Pride. He was also in February 2007 at a protest held in front of the London city hall during the M4 meeting.

 

Mozaika, the Latvian LGBT organization which organizes the "Friendship Days" and the Riga Pride attended the Moscow Pride Festival '06.  Project GayRussia covered the event "live from Riga" in 2006.

 

GALHA, the UK Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA) took part in the Moscow Pride Festival '06 and co-ordinated the demonstration in front of the London Russian consulate. In March 2007, GALHA showed the "MOCKBA '06" movie during its film festival.

 

Equality Foundation, the Polish LGBT organization in charge of conducting the Warsaw Pride coordinated an action in front of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw in March 2006. Its representatives also attended the Moscow Pride Festival.

  • 2 - Full membership in international organizations

ILGA, Project GayRussia is a member of the International Lesbian and Gay Association and has been selected by the other members to organize the 2010 ILGA world conference during which 200 activists from 30 different countries are expected to meet in Moscow.

 

ILGA-Europe, as a member of ILGA, Project GayRussia is affiliated to its regional European unit and regularly attend the annual conferences of the organization.

 

IDAHO, Project GayRussia is one of the founding member of the “International Day Against Homophobia Committee” and has organized the first International IDAHO Conference which gathered 120 activists from 20 different countries during the Moscow Pride festival in May 2006.

 

IGLCN, Project GayRussia  has hosted in Moscow the first stage of the ILGCN 2006 World Conference on Lesbian & Gay Culture.

 

InterPride, as the organizer of the Moscow Pride, Project GayRussia is affiliated with the international Pride association and attend the annual conference of this organization.

 

Euro Pride Organizers Association, Project GayRussia is a member of the association of organizers of gay and lesbian pride events in Europe.

  • 3 - International LGBT Media Partners

Project GayRussia serves the international LGBT community with a continuous flow of informations on LGBT life and event in Russia and Eastern Europe. Over the last months, the visibility of the Russian LGBT community has increased like never in the past, both locally and abroad. The Moscow Pride has helped to attract attention, but not only. The lift on gay blood ban, different court cases and the Russian support to Iran LGBT communitty, all initiated by Project GayRussia have been broadcasted around the world by our partners. We also distributed the first photos and news from Riga during the second pride attempt in 2006.

 

Below are our main medias partners with whom we exchange articles on a regular basis. Our news from Russia are usually reprinted in various LGBT editions all around the world.

 

E-llico (France), serves the French LGBT community through its web site and its free magazine (50'000 copies distributed twice a month). The printed magazine has made the best coverage of the Moscow Pride. Very professional and very accurate. Merci JFL.

 

Tetu (France), France's biggest Gay and Lesbian magazine (80'000 copies), published monthly, covered the '06 and '07 edition of the Moscow Pride festival. It also updates its readers about Russian Gay life regularly.

 

Zero (Spain), the main Gay Magazine in Spain follows closely the Russian Gay Life.

 

CiteGay (France), a French web site which republish our news on a regular basis.

 

UkGaynews (United Kingdom), a web site that has become a reference around the world. It is also a place where many journalists come to pick their news before to write articles. A strong supporter of the Moscow Pride which followed all the events from scratch and covered both Pride Festival "live from Moscow".

 

PinkNews (United Kingdom), a new fast growing British site which republish our news on a regular basis.

 

360 (Switzerland), a website which serves the French speaking part of Switzerland. 360 is also a powerfull LGBT organization which organized the ILGA 2006 World Conference in Geneva. Project GayRussia was a co-sponsor of the event.

 

GayRomandie (Switzerland), a small Swiss gay site which published the first article of our Project before the launch of the GayRussia.Ru site. From where everything started...

 

In addition, Project GayRussia works closely with news agencies AFP, AP and Interfax.
