02/11/2010 Organizers of St Petersburg Gay Pride asked for a meeting with the City Governor and Ombudsman
On February 10, St Petersburg Organizers wrote the governor of the Northern Capital, Valentina Matvienko and the Commissioner for Human Rights, Alexei Kozyrev, requesting a meeting twith City officials to discuss planned the logictiscs of the first Gay Pride planned in the city next June 26. In their letter, Members of the Organizing Committee stressed that "our event is exclusively rights-based and has nothing to do with a carnival. We want to realize our rights to march and rally which are granted by the Constitution". The group further expressed the hope that "St. Petersburg government will not allow the remake of the gay pride in Moscow which is brutally suppressed every year". The first gay pride in St. Petersburg will be held the same day as the Paris Gay Pride. GayRussia.Ru |

12/04/2009 European Premiere of Gay Pride documentary featuring Moscow Pride The European Premiere of the Canadian documentary "Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride" will take place during the Vienna Human Rights Film Festival in Austria. The crew as well as Nikolai Alekseev, Moscow Pride Chief Organizer will take part to a Q&A session after the first screening on saturday December 5 at 9pm at the Burg Kino. Nikolai Alekseev will represent GayRussia at the Annual Interpride World Conference which starts on Thursday 15. This year, the St Petersburg Pride in Florida is hosting the conference. During the 3 days events, delegates will have to make their choice between Stockholm and Toronto for the Worldpride 2012. 10/04/2009 13:23:45 Moscow Court to Consider Same Sex Marriage case on October 6
On October 6, a judge from the Tverskoy District Court in Moscow will consider the legality of the denial to register the same sex marriage of Irina Fet and Irina Shipitko. Because the chances to have the Court cancelling the denial, the couple already announced that they plan to register their marriage in Toronto, Canada, later this month on October 23. Upon their return from Canada the coupe will seek the recognition of their Canadian marriage in Russia. Should the Russian authorities deny to validate their Canadian marriage, the couple said they will pursue the case through the Russian Court up to the European Court of Human Rights. Prominent French Lawyer Caroline Mecary said she will defend the couple at the European Court.

Yesterday, representatives of the LGBT Human Rights Projects GayRussia and GayBelarus took part to the annual conference of the European Pride Organizers Association (EPOA). The delegation presented the concept of the Slavic Gay Pride which was born in Minsk in November 2008 and which took place for the first time in Moscow in May 2009. The delegation also took part to the discussions of the future of the European Association as well as the workshop dedicated on Eastern Europe and a eeting with the Head of the City Council of Warsaw which took place in the Palace of Culture. 09/14/2009 14:23:45 Moscow Court upheld ban on gay picket in front of the Iranian Embassy
On September 14, a judge of the Tagansky District Court in Moscow confirmed that the Moscow authorities legally banned a gay picket scheduled on July 19. The protest aimed to comemorate the anniversary of the execution of two teenagers accused of homosexual relations. Similar actions have been allowed in 2006 and 2007 but from 2008, the event was no longer allowed after the organizers started to specify that the protest was specifically against execution of homosexuals in Iran. The organizers will appeal the decision. They are ready to pursue their claim either at the European Court of Human Rights or at the UN Human Rights Committee. GayRussia.Ru |

Irina Fet and Irina Shipitko who attempted to register their marriage last May in Moscow announced that they will be flying to Toronto where the Judge Harvey Brownstone will marry them on October 23. According to Nikolai Alekseev, their lawyer, the couple will later seek recognition of their marriage in Russia. On October 6, a Moscow Court will hear the claim of the couple who was denied marriage in Russia.

While Oleg Mitvol told the journalist last Friday that he signed a document which authorize Moscow gay activists to host a picket calling for his resignation on August 24, a different document was handed over by the Prefecture today. Nikolai Alekseev and Nikolai Baev announced today that they applied to the Prefecture of the Northern administrative area of Moscow for permission to hold a protest in front of its building and against ... its Prefect. On October 11 at 1pm in the center of Tambo, a city located 500km south of Moscow, was supposed to be held a Protest action directed against the homophobia of the Governor of the Tambov Region. Gay organizers decided to cancel the action following the receipt of a denial from the Mayor of the City. Anti gay protestors showed up at the event. A guy could be seen with a fake gun.

Third Moscow Gay Pride took place on June 1st between 1 and 2pm. Two symbollical actions were organized, first, in front of the Tchaikovskw Statue near the Musical conservatory located within walking distance of Kremlin and second in front of the Moscow City Halll were activists released a banner from a flat denouncing homophobia of Moscow Mayor.

05/06/2008 10:50:12 Video of Gays trying to donate their blood in Moscow
September 14 2007 : several Russian gay activists, including the organizer of Moscow Pride Nikolai Alekseev, tried to donate blood as openly gay men in the Central Blood Transfusion Centre in Moscow but they were denied. Watch the Video of the event.
Few months after this event, on April 16 2008, the Minister of Health and Social Development signed the decree amending the rules on blood donations which were implemented on September 14, 2001. Gays are no longer discriminated and can donate their blood. Read the article HERE. |

On sunday 27th May, the site GayRussia.Ru received 10'538 visits. This historical peak of visitors was obtained without any disruption of activity. Contrary to last year, all attacks against the site have been blocked. The live coverage of the 2nd Moscow Pride events by GayRussia.Ru was republished all around the world. On sunday, GayRussia.Ru had a special agreement with its partner UkGayNews.org.uk. The British based site which feed many LGBT medias around the world run a special report, live from Moscow. In addition, BBC web site as well as Pet Shop Boys official web site and Ilga-Europe, among many other, have placed direct link to GayRussia.Ru.

05/28/2007 20:23:56 Russian Gay activists released by court after 24h arrest
Tverskaya was quiet already yesterday evening. This morning noone could ever imagine that the second ever held "Eastern Stonewall" took place yesterday in front of the city hall. Today, Nikolai Alekseev and Nikolai Khramov from the Moscow Pride Committee have both been released by court. After a successfull theatral perfomance of their lawyer, the testimony of several MPs and MEP, and an incredible media and political pressure in Europe, the court decided to released the activists. A new hearing has been schedule on June 8 and June 9. It is expected that the case will be closed at this date. "The reason for the new hearing is to call the policemen who wrote the report" explained Alekseev. "We have introduced in court all the proofs of their lies. We have our photos, papers, video and testimonies. We are very confident" he concluded. Tonight, the Moscow Pride Committee wants to deeply thanks all the participants to the Pride. GayRussia.Ru
