THE WEB SITE OF THE ILGA 2010 MOSCOW CONFERENCE WILL BE LAUNCHED IN SEPTEMBER 2006
Project GayRussia.Ru will host the XXV conference of the International Lesbian & Gay Association (ILGA) in May 2010.

"This is a big victory for Russian LGBT. We are going to make a bridge between activists from Russian and all over the world" declared Nikolai Alekseev shortly after the vote.
During the XXIII ILGA Conference in Geneva, last monday, members have supported the application of project GayRussia.Ru to appoint Moscow as host city of the 2010 conference. Shortly before, members agreed to meet in May 2008 in Quebec for the XXIV Conference.
In February, Project GayRussia.Ru, full member of ILGA, and the Swiss Organizers of the XXIII Conference have suggested to appoint the host city of the future conferences 4 years ahead instead of 2 years - referring to the precedent created during the Roma conference in 2000 when two cities, Oakland 2001 and Manila 2003 were selected. The proposition was signed by 33 member organizations. Idea of the Moscow candidature was raised last October in Paris during the regional conference of ILGA-Europe.
For the transition of the new system, it has been agreed to select the 2008 and 2010 host city in Geneva. Therefore, the 2012 host city will be appointed in Quebec. "This new system is a real chance for emerging countries" said Alekseev during the presentation of Moscow. Delegates agreed that two years are too short to raise enough funds to host a World Conference. Budget of the World conferences usually run over EUR 100'000.
"One of the main problem of the recent conference has always been the difficulties to raise sufficient funds to grant scholarships. The eastern european delegation in Geneva was almost non existent. Having the conference in Moscow will allow many from Russia, CIS and eastern europe to attend and meet with their peers from different continents" told Alekseev.
The next ILGA Conference will take place in Quebec in 2008. It will mark the 30th anniversary of the organization.
